Green Laser Light Prostate Surgery
Prostate is a gland located in front of the rectum and just below the bladder in such a way that any enlargement or movement of prostate will obstruct your urinary system. And it is through prostate, the tube (urethra) that carries urine passes. It is one of the male sex organs. Prostate produces seminal fluid that is basic in nature to carry the sperms produced by testes.
Necessity for Green Laser Light Prostate Surgery
As we age, prostate in some people enlarges so much as to bear enough on the bladder and urethra. Understandably this reduces the bladder's holding volume and restricts the flow through urethra. Now as you imagined the result can be frustrating and wanting to urinate frequently. This is not all. It is associated with burning sensation and pain; you will need to push to urinate. Above all, it takes away your freedom. You will begin to avoid long journeys, start looking for a place first (toilet) to urinate when in a new place and so on. Some of the chronically affected patients may even need catheter admission.
With these symptoms followed by different confirmation tests ordered by your surgeon you will prepare for the prostate surgery. But why Green Laser Light Surgery? Well. Here are some good reasons. The reddened prostate tissues absorb the green laser selectively well. (Hence Green Laser Light Prostate Surgery is also called as Photo selective Vaporization of the Prostate in medical terminology). The Green Laser Light is very powerful to produce an intensity of 532nm of wavelength. Not just that. This enormous energy is produced in pulses of rapid succession to the tune of up to 1.0 MHz frequency. This kind of beating pattern will have a greater effect on your prostate than a normal continuous Laser would have.
Green Laser Light Prostate Surgery is essentially an anesthetic procedure. Generally it will be local anesthesia and in some cases, a spinal one as decided by your surgeon. Once you are out of conscious your surgeon passes the cystoscope (a telescope kind of instrument that helps visualize the inside) up your penis and right till prostate. And the optical fibers of the laser emitting device follow this to the spot and are located precisely. The red enlarged tissues of prostate are vaporized till constriction in the bladder and urethra returns to normal.
Post Green Laser Light Prostate Surgery
You have to consider a little bleeding and slight pain as normal. A catheter can be placed as would be necessary. You can go home the next day unlike in the case of TURP - trans urethral resection of prostate, a traditional surgery. Take pain killers as necessary but under your doctor's advice. He will, also imperatively advice you not to drive for a couple of days and avoid operating heavy machines for two to three weeks. Avoiding sex for a month will be in your interest.
