Am I a Good Candidate For Eyelid Surgery
If you have excess skin getting in the way of the upper eyelids, any loose skin hanging down from the upper lids impairing your vision, a puffy look making you look tired, then you are a great candidate for eyelid surgery. Even wrinkles around the eyelid or bags and dark circles under the eye, would make for a good eyelid surgery.
Eyelid surgery can usually correct these problems. During the consultation, you may be asked to look in a mirror and point out exactly what you would like to see improved. This will help your plastic surgeon to understand your expectations and determine whether they can realistically be achieved.
There will also be a through going over of your past and present health and any problems you may have or that may arise during and after the eyelid surgery. Allergies, diabetes, high blood pressure all have a baring on the risks associated with this type of surgery. If you wear contact lenses, take them with you because the doctor will want to see if there is a problem with your vision. Also, if you have had a problem called dry eye, make sure you tell the doctor.
Each person is different, so everyone does not achieve the same results from eyelid surgery. Your surgeon is the best person to give you the choices as to what would be best for you. the doctor will take pictures and show you some so you have an idea as to what the before and after will be like.
For upper eyelid surgery, an incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and extends slightly beyond the outside corner into the laugh lines or other existing creases. Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed. Because the incision follows the natural contour of the upper eyelid, it will be well camouflaged when healed.
Your recovery time will vary depending on a number of factors. Your age is one, as well as your health and how fast you heal. During the first 48 hours following the eyelid surgery, you will experience swelling and bruising. This is a normal reaction to the trams that has been done to the skin and eyelid area.
Your vision may be a little blurry for a few days. Your eyes may be sensitive to light, and you may experience excess tearing or dryness. Some plastic surgeons recommend eye drops to help relieve any burning or itching. You may want to wear dark sunglasses for a couple of weeks to protect your eyes from wind and sun irritation. After a few weeks, you will see the results of your eyelid surgery, and you should be pleased. There is normally minimal scarring and in some cases, no scar from the procedure is visible.
Eyelid surgery can improve your self esteem and good looks by refreshing your face, if you feel this could be an option for you, contact your doctor of choice and see what the best options for yourself are!
